A POLTERGEIST followed a Horsham teenager home from a night's camping and is now terrorising him and his family, he has claimed.
Stephen Foster, 18, says the ghostly goings-on began when he and his friend Todd Bevis, 16, decided to go camping in St Leonard's Forest, near St John the Evangelist Church at Coolhurst.

More than a month later Stephen is still living in terror since he believes an 'evil force' they encountered in the forest has followed him home.

Doors open and close on their own and he has seen dark shapes flitting around his bedroom.

The family have even invited a paranormal investigation team to visit their home in bid to rid themselves of the ghostly presence.

Following one terrifying night two weeks after the camping trip, Stephen has refused to enter his bedroom and instead sleeps downstairs on the sofa

During their camping trip, Stephen and Todd said they saw strange lights, heard the sound of a girl screaming, and felt a strange presence try to enter the tent.

His mother Caroline, who works in a care home, has backed up her son's ghoulish tale.

"I don't know what's going on," she said. "I tend to be more sceptical about these things, but there was just no explanation for it."

The family are now awaiting a visit from the Sussex Paranormal Research Group, but in the meantime Stephen says he fears for his safety.

A phantom beauty, thought to be the ghost of a tragic bridesmaid killed in a 1960's

A ghost is being blamed for a series of car crashes.

Paranormal researchers are investigating the sightings of a girl aged between three and five in Victorian dress who appears late at night near an accident blackspot.

Researcher David Taylor, chairman of the Parasearch group, said: "Although people who reported sightings didn't actually crash they had to swerve round the apparition.

"It could be an optical illusion of some sort.

"The area around there is an accident blackspot and there have been some serious incidents, so maybe they had all seen the same thing," Mr Taylor, who has been investigating paranormal incidents for 22 years, said.

The girl is said to appear on Oldnall Road, between Wollescote and Cradley in the West Midlands, late at night.

"One person said he'd swerved to avoid a child in old-fashioned - possibly Victorian - clothes standing in the middle of the road; and then, when he looked back, there was nothing there," David added.

Jimmy Lahn, 54, who lives near the road between Wollescote and Cradley in the West Midlands, said: "We've had quite a few accidents. Maybe now we know why."

The team from Parasearch are trying to find out if there are any local stories which could throw light on who the girl is.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said the most recent incidents included a crash involving a motorbike and a car in November while last July a woman was taken to hospital after a collision on the same stretch.

Parasearch is a West Midlands-based research group and is looking into the possibility that the spooky sightings are linked to the area's nearby archaeological sites such as Wychbury Hill.

Who is the ghost girl?

David Taylor says he cannot say who the girl is but that there's a local story about an unnamed person being drowned at a farm on the road. The farm no longer exists.

David told Mirror.co.uk there have been reports of several apparitions seen along the road which include: A little girl; a little boy (eight-10 years old in Victorian clothing); a figure in black.

"In all honesty we are probably not talking about the ghost (or apparition as we prefer) as a spirit of the dead, but rather as a reaction to a complex series of stimuli that results in the witnesses having different experiences from the same stimuli, what that stimuli is is the really interesting question!," David said.

Other ghosts on the road:

Research published in 2007 uncovered a ghoulish list of mysterious stretches of road where unexplained ghostly incidents have been reported�

Here are some of those drivers would do good to heed:

1) Drivers reported running over a phantom beauty, thought to be the ghost of a tragic bridesmaid killed in a 1960s car crash on Blue Bell Hill, Aylesford in Kent.

2) Motorists heard the powerful engine of a 1920s Brough Superior motorcycle speeding around the country lanes of Clouds Hill near Wareham, in Dorset, followed by a screech of tyres and an eerie silence. Nobody has seen the rider, said to be World War One hero T.E. Lawrence (better known as Lawrence of Arabia), killed in a motorbike accident near the spot.

3) An old Austin 1100, without a driver, seen speeding along a bleak cliff-top road at dawn on the Hebridean island of Benbecula which simply vanishes whenever any attempt is made to follow it.

4) Allegedly, at least three people have died and many more been injured by �The Phantom Lorry of Cheshire� which stalks the Hyde to Mottram road. As far back as February 1930 the shadowy truck has been blamed for causing drivers to crash by suddenly emerging out of a non-existent opening by the side of the road.

5) Between Blandford and Salisbury, in Wiltshire, mystified motorists claim to have seen phantom wreckage by the side of the road and heard the screams and groans of crash victims. Others have reported the ghostly-face of a man and felt an icy cold touch before looking down to see a severed bloody hand on the ground.

6) On foggy nights between the village of Aberhowy and Cardigan Bay, Wales, the ghost of a cyclist guides people along the dangerous road. The spectre is said to be a local man who lost his son in a car accident on a misty night and now tries to prevent a similar tragedy.

7) A gruesome pair of hairy, calloused hands that are inhumanly strong have been reported to grab the wheel of cars or handlebars of motorcycles travelling along the narrow Dartmoor roads near Postbridge and Princetown, in Devon, and do their utmost to fight you off the road.

The story has been repeated many times since its first suggested incident in June 1921 when a worker at Dartmoor Prison was killed as his motorcycle became uncontrollable and crashed.

The Parasearch team uses three main theories to guide its research

Geology & Geomagnetism

Canadian scientist Dr Michael Persinger undertook a massive study which seemed to show that:

Persinger found that paranormal activity, from ghosts to UFOs was more likely to occur near to geological faults, themselves centres of geomagnetic activity. Parasearch checks the local geology of the area being investigated to see if the phenomena being reported could be caused by geomagnetic activity.

Electromagnetic Hotspots

There are thought to be links between electromagnetic hotspots and the appearance of ghostly phenomena. Researcher and author Albert Budden found witnesses to paranormal activity are likely to:

1) Live near high levels of electromagnetic activity (pylons etc)
2) Have been involved in an electromagnetic discharge (lightning strike etc) Parasearch use specialist equipment to detect man-made electromagnetic fields.

Infrasound

Infrasound refers to extreme bass waves or vibrations, those with a frequency below the audibility range of the human ear (20 Hz to 22 kHz). Even though these waves can't be heard by us, they can be felt and have been shown to produce a range of effects in some people including anxiety, extreme sorrow, and chills. Pioneering research by the late Vic Tandy of Coventry University suggested that infrasound could be a contributing factor in ghostly experiences

IT looks like every house on the street, a normal semi with a bird-bath perched in the front garden.
But the unassuming facade of this home hides a ghostly secret which, almost four decades ago, drove a family to run in terror from "The Thornton Thing".

Today, its resident says he lives with a ghost � no longer the sinister apparition which reduced residents to sheer terror, but the spirit of his late wife.
And in an amazing story, Frank Jones admits he believes wife Sadie is contacting him from beyond the grave... by mobile phone.

Frank, 59, says the spirit of Sadie and son Steven, who both died five years ago, are visiting him at home in Windsor Avenue, Thornton.

Mr Jones had his home exorcised 12 years ago following disturbing visits from a supernatural being, known as 'The Thing' which had forced another family to flee the house 37 years ago.
The Ross family told The Gazette in 1971 how the 'Thing' pulled at their bed covers while they were asleep. They also told how they sensed a vile smell and felt something breathing in their ears.

When Mr Jones moved into the house 20 years ago he was sceptical about the legend of the 'Thing'. But he soon changed his mind.

He said: "I just thought they were imagining it. But there was a lot of banging and an earthy smell in the house. Then one night I was lying in bed and a mist came across the room.

"I wanted to shout out at it, but I couldn't get my words out. My face seemed to be paralysed. It all got too much for me when that happened."

Mr Jones's daughter, Maureen, 30, also recalls experiences with the 'Thing', including taps coming on full force and the house being "ransacked".

She said: "You think people are exaggerating until you experience it. I was home alone one evening and suddenly heard these footsteps coming up the stairs.

"They went into my dad's bedroom and then I heard all the cupboards banging open. It sounded like burglars."

Mr Jones contacted Fleetwood Spiritualist Church for an exorcism to be carried out.

He added: "A lady came to cleanse the house. She said a man was trapped between two worlds."

But the strange goings on returned five years ago after Mr Jones suffered a double tragedy when his son Steven, 32, died from a brain tumour and wife Sadie, 69, died from a heart attack three months later.
Mr Jones, who runs his own scrap metal business, said: "Just after Sadie died I came home and I felt like I didn't want to go in the house.

"I got a missed call on my mobile, but it didn't ring. The call was from my own home number, but there was nobody in the house. Then when I went inside there was a smell like cigarettes which Sadie used to smoke and the smell of her perfume."

Mr Jones said the family has also received strange text messages, which they believe to be from her.

He added: "She always had a mobile with her. We buried her with her phone. There have been messages with words Sadie would say but there's no number.

A hospital has apologised to a patient after a nurse claiming to be a medium said she had seen a ghost on a ward.

Gillian Davies, who was recovering from surgery, complained about the incident and the level of care she received at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd, Denbighshire.

An independent review ruled that the hospital "skirted over" the ghost incident, and the nursing care given to Mrs Davies fell below standard.

Mrs Davies, 48, of Mostyn, Flintshire, said she wanted lessons to be learned.

She was convalescing following an operation to remove one of her breasts when a nurse who claimed to be a medium said she had just seen a ghost.
Mrs Davies said she was still suffering the effects of anaesthetic and thought it was a sign she was going to die.

She added: "I know it sounds silly now but I thought the ghost had come to get me.
"I was very vulnerable at the time."
Mrs Davies said she told another nurse in the morning what had happened and was told to ignore her.

But she made a formal complaint against Conwy and Denbighshire NHS trust about the ghost allegation incident, and other issues concerning her treatment.

Despite the sensitivity of her surgery, she said she was placed on a mixed ward at the hospital in Bodelwyddan, Denbighshire.

She also claimed her case notes were left on the bed and she saw her biopsy results without any support.

Wound
Mrs Davies alleged a student nurse removed her dressing - which is denied by the trust - and left her alone when she saw her wound for the first time.
She also said she was left to dress herself, and to shower alone, and complained about cleanliness issues.

A review conducted by a senior clinical advisor from another health authority said "there is very little doubt that the nursing care experienced by Mrs Davies fell well below an acceptable standard".
The case of a nurse being a medium and seeing a ghost on the ward was "a rather strange issue", but it had been "completely skirted over" by the trust, the advisor said.

Apology

The report recommends the trust hold a meeting with Mrs Davies, chaired independently, to discuss the issues and give her a "fulsome apology".

Jill Galvani, director of nursing, said: "We apologise to Mrs Davies that the standards of care fell below her expectations during her stay in Glan Clwyd Hospital.

"We can confirm that a complaint made by Mrs Davies was referred for an independent review.

"This was referred back to the trust with a number of recommendations.
"We are now in the process of arranging a meeting with Ms Davies to discuss both her complaint and the clinical adviser's report."
The hospital said the nurse at the centre of the ghost allegation had been spoken to.

Mrs Davies added: "I am not after compensation or anything like that.
"I just want something done so that other women do not have to go through what I experienced."

Easington Council employed medium Suzanne Hadwin after Peterlee tenant Sabrina Fallon reported paranormal activity including moving objects.

Miss Fallon had even called police after hearing bangs which terrified her children Shannon, nine, and Amie, one.

A council spokesman said it paid half the psychic's fee as it was the most cost-effective solution.

Andrew Burnip, the council's homelessness and housing advice manager, said the family had been left "traumatised" by the strange goings on and wanted to leave the house.

The council considered rehousing the family in temporary accommodation but this would have cost up to �40 per night.

Miss Fallon said the spirit had now gone and the house had a "lovely atmosphere".

She said: "It all started before Christmas. We were away and my sister's husband had the keys.

"He let himself in one night and heard whispering and banging from upstairs. He shouted out: 'You better get out or I'm calling the police.'

"He said my dressing gown then came floating down the stairs and landed at his feet.

"He ran out and rang me crying like a girl saying something awful had happened - I thought he was drunk, but when we came back we heard the bangs and whispering."

Mr Burnip said: "This family was absolutely distraught and believed what was happening - that is not to say that the council believed.

"What we saw was a relatively small amount to pay for an outcome which in effect saved the taxpayer many hundreds, if not thousands of pounds."Medium Ms Hadwin said she used her "gift" to isolate the spirit in one room and then exorcise it from the house.

"I went into the house and there was a horrible atmosphere," she said.

"I could feel the entity around all the time. He was bombarding the house and the whole family - they were terrified.

"I put down a circle of salt, asked the family to be present and I have now sent him on his way."
